Starting College at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia

With 33,000 students, George Mason is the largest university in Virginia and one of the largest and top-ranked in the United States. Ironically, it was not founded until 1972 with it previously being a Northern Virginia branch of the University of Virginia. Since then it has surpassed the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech in size and boasts the most number of Nobel Prize winners of any public university in the U.S. Because of its close proximity to the Federal government agencies in Washington, DC, it has many cutting edge centers as programs such as the National Center for Biodefense and centers for world peace, global peace, and special education. Its basketball team went to the NCAA tournament final four two years ago. With 17,000 dorm rooms and more under construction, it has some of the newest dorms of any university in the country, with them all being air-conditioned with free Wi-Fi and cable TV.
